THE COMOUTER OF THE CAR MAY BE HACKED
GOT MY CAR TOWED TO MIDAS ON 12/15 BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T START. THEY SAID I NEEDED A TUNE UP AND A NEW INTAKE. THEY WENT TO TEST MY CAR AND THE ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE. I RECEIVED A CALL ON 12/17 FROM MIDAS SAYING THAT MY ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE AND THE INTAKE SPECIFICALLY WAS UNDER GM RECALL AS IT IS A GM 3800 SERIES II ENGINE. I WAS DIRECTED BY MIDAS TO FILE A COMPLAINT ABOUT MY ISSUE, AND THAT THIS WORK WOULD BE COVERED AS IT IS PART OF A GM RECALL. MY CAR WON'T START AND I NEED TO GET IT TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR THE WORK TO BE DONE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO SOLUTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

AT APPROXIMATELY 157800 MILES, DRIVERS' SIDE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCK BECAME INOPERABLE, UNABLE TO OPEN DOOR FROM INSIDE WITH MANUAL CONTROLS, UNABLE TO UNLOCK DOOR WITH REMOTE AND UNABLE TO OPEN DOOR WITH KEY FROM OUTSIDE. CANNOT OPEN DOOR TO EFFECT REPAIRS AS DISCOVERED ONLINE (YTUBE) AS INSIDE PANEL MUST BE REMOVED WITH DOOR OPEN. MUST MAKE ENTRY FROM PASSENGER SIDE. IF PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCK FREEZES OR IF AN ACCIDENT OCCURS ON PASSENGER SIDE WOULD BE UNABLE TO GET OUT OF VEHICLE. AND NOW THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HAS DONE THE SAME AND CANNOT BE OPENED OR UNLOCKED. OBVIOUSLY THE CAR IS STATIONARY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO OPEN OR UNLOCK THE DOORS.

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE RUPTURED INTAKE MANIFOLD DISPLACED THE FUEL LINE, WHICH PULLED THE INJECTOR OUT CAUSING A FUEL LEAK. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. I WAS DRIVING A BUICK PARK AVE 2000. AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN I MADE A RIGHT HAND TURN ONTO A BUSY 3 LANE CITY STREET. WHEN I ACCELERATED AND BEGAN CHANGING LANES THE CAR LUNGED A LITTLE AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. I TRIED PRESSING THE BRAKE AND IT FELT LIKE THERE WAS A BLOCK OF WOOD UNDERNEATH IT. THE BRAKE WAS NOT WORKING AND THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING I WAS APPROACHING A BUSY INTERSECTION AND THE LIGHT WAS RED. I TRIED DOWN SHIFTING BUT NOTHING CHANGED. I KEPT TRYING TO BRAKE BUT .IT DIDN'T WORK AND THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING SO AS I APPROACHED THE RED LIGHT THE ONLY THING I COULD THINK TO DO WAS TRY MAKING A SHARP TURN WITH THE CARS THAT WERE TURNING HEADED IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION I WAS GOING. I MANAGED TO SLICE BETWEEN TWO CARS IN THE TURN BUT THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME INCREDIBLY STIFF AND I COULDN'T NEGOTIATE THE TURN AS HOPED. I RAN INTO TWO CARS THAT IN TURN WERE PUSHED INTO TWO OTHER CARS AS A RESULT OF MY NOT BEING ABLE TO BREAK OR CONTROL THE STEERING INTO THE TURN. THERE WERE TWO PEOPLE WHO WENT TO THE HOSPITAL AND HAD INJURIES. *TR

EACH TIME THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED THE CONTACT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING OVER $200. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ALSO STATED THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,221 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,800. TWO GABRIEL STRUT MOUNT KIT ITEM #142640 WERE INSTALLED IN A 2000 BUICK PARK AVENUE IN THE SPRING OF 2010 . BOTH STRUT MOUNTS FAILED AFTER ABOUT 5 MONTHS, ABOUT 3500 MILES. THE PASSENGER SIDE STRUT HAD PIERCED COMPLETELY THROUGH THE HOOD. BOTH STRUT MOUNTS WERE REPLACED, AGAIN NEW GABRIEL KIT #142640 WERE INSTALLED IN SEPTEMBER 2010. THE NEW STRUT MOUNTS ON BOTH SIDES FAILED IN OCTOBER 2010, THE PASSENGER SIDE STRUT WENT THROUGH, AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE STRUT DENTED THE HOOD. A REPLACEMENT HOOD WAS LOCATED BUT HAD NOT BEEN INSTALLED YET. THE HOLE IN THE HOOD HAD INCREASED IN SIZE AFTER THE SECOND FAILURE. I HAVE PHOTOS SHOWING THE MOUNT SEPARATING FROM THE STRUT AND THE DENT AND HOLE THE STRUT MADE IN THE HOOD. *TR
RACK AND PINION BREAKAGE CAUSED BY RUST OUT OF COMPONENT DUE TO PLACEMENT OF AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM DRAIN PIPE. CONDENSATE DRIPPED DIRECTLY ON COMPONENT AND CAUSED THE COMPONENT TO FAIL WHILE IN SERVICE CREATING STEERING HAZARD AND INABILITY TO CONTROL VEHICLE STEERING.
